@J$; Last night as my legs cramped up during the last round of that WOD, you asked me if I was getting enough water. How much is "enough" water? Also, I drink a bunch of coffee every day and I have heard that may be the cause of leg cramps as well. Is that true?

Steve-O

Dr. Throttle here.

I've been too caffeinated for too long - no issues. I had a similar situation last year for about a week and took a potassium supp. along with Cal-max. Worked awesome. Of course, check w/your Dr. prior to beginning.

Good luck!

Emily

Beef... so close yesterday!
Steve-O, a lot of muscle cramps are caused by dehydration so keep up the water intake (quite a bit of the research I have seen recently doesn't indicate that moderate caffeine intake does not dehydrate your system as much as once thought) but also consider that this might also be due to a loss of electrolytes. I would imagine that this is what the supplements that Throttle took were working to replace. My triathelete friends always run with salts tablets in order to replace the sodium during a race so you might also look into adding some electrolytes replacement as well as hydration. I have found that, personally, I always perform better when I am constantly sipping water throughout the day. Most days, I end up going through 2 of those Naglene bottles throughout the day. Hope this helps!

Beef

Em, I thought I was behind by at least 20 seconds not 3! If only I had known how close I was... alas, your box jumps win again.

Good work morning crew!!
Dear double unders, why couldn't you have been nicer to Tom this morning? It is after all his birthday. I'm just say'n

carissa

Loving all of the comments posted at the end of the results!

carissa

Sheena, thanks again! I feel like the quote of the day is directed at me! In time, I will do yesterday's WOD again and succeed.

Jacob

I'm right there with you, Carissa. But I'll be a monkey's uncle if doing double-unders ever taught anyone "sweetness." Just ask Collin.

J. Marcis

"Monkey's Uncle" Jacob?

Steve-O - drink more water...and listen to Emily. Also - lets talk about Masters comp.

BC - perfect workout for you today...perfect for the bodyweight champ.

Hi Terence.

Tyrell

Happy B-day Tom! TJ: Who said white men can't jump?

Collin

Have to do a BC style rundown here...

1. Jacob DUs teach us that the only way to win is to do more work faster...or so I'm told.

2. Happy birthday Tom!

3. Steve-O - I have issues with horrible calf cramps from time to time but they have lessened since I started the following regime for water consumption...just take your body weight, divide by two and consume that many ounces in day.

4. Yes we all realize TJ is a phenomenal athlete, great guy and takes a wonderful photo (amirite ladies?) but I think I speak for everyone when I say MORE DREW MATHESON!

Jeff J (Dynomite)

Hi all,

I have a random question that unfortunately has nothing to do with monkeys uncles or Annie.

I'm looking to go back to school for a Masters in Secondary Education. My Bachelors Degree has nothing to do with education. I'm currently accepted to a Grad school back in Iowa that gets you your Masters in Teaching without having any specific B.A. degree. I'd like to scope things out here in Chicago as well. Does anyone know of any graduate programs for secondary education where a specific B.A. is not required. Just curious...

Thanks much!

Cutler

"Why did you leave me behind at the old box?" - My double under technique

hornet/170cm/63kg

vita coco (or any brand of coconut water) = no cramp for me.

Leo

I've been prone to cramping my whole life and at times have had terrible calf cramps. I have tried everything, and the best thing is... uh, I still haven't really found it. However, sufficient water and electrolytes help. (I drink pickle juice when I'm really cramping) Stretching properly (regularly, not just around workouts) helps. Sports massages to break up adhesions and trigger points help. (foam roll if you don't want to spring the $$$ for massages) If they are really bad and you want to go with medication, baclofen can help. Sadly, in my case Chinese medicine did not help, although your mileage may vary.

Check out National Louis University.

BigVin

Jeff J,
Along with National Louis, look at Roosevelt. I think both require some passing scores on some silly tests prior to admittance, but no prior education degree. Also, I think Roosevelt might be offering a "fast track" program now.

Ashley

Larry, is that you?

Steve-O my advice is to quit doing the donkey press on the Cybex machine.

Thanks, Kalish and BigVin...much appreciated!
